ADOLESCENT SWAN INTERLOPING

A  cygnet has landed on my pond this first week of October  and is hanging fast with my permament pond mute swans and their only surviving cygnet of this year.

the two adolescents are getting on swimmingly and do not appear to be indulging in pre-mature shenanigans of a sexual nature.

my question –(before I imagine an answer)  — is:  how did they get here?  And what might they intend?
